That You May Know

The ancient people of Thrace had an interesting  symbol for God.  I have never seen  the actual symbol, but it is described as a three-part symbol depicting rays of  sunlight melting ice, shattering rock, and raising a person from the dead.   With apologies to any of my ancient  ancestors in Thrace, here is how I visualize the symbol:

It is a fascinating symbol because it touches on the three ways that God has manifested Himself in our world: natural, supernatural, and personal.  In all ways and at all times, God has worked in such a way that we would know that there is NO God like Him!   Throughout man's history on Earth, we have experienced God's revelation on natural, supernatural, as well as a personal basis.   Why does God show off the way He does?

"For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.  For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth.   But, indeed, for this cause I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My power, and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth."
(Exodus 9:14-16 NAS)

Dizzy Dean said, "It ain't braggin' if ya done it."  Indeed, God has done it and world is filled with His testimony.   (For a more complete discover of how God has revealed Himself please visit my earth / wind / fire / water study.)   Over and over again, God does something so that YOU MAY KNOW that NO ONE IS LIKE HIM!

Here is a quick study that "illustrates" the three points celebrated by the symbol of ancient Thrace.

NATURAL Revelation

Nature proves (demonstrates) the existence of something.

The sun melting ice is a very natural thing.  The Bible is full of praise to God for the natural world that God created for us and sustains us in.

He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; who makes lightnings for the rain; who brings forth the wind from His treasuries. (Psalm 135:7, see also  Psalm 8.1-4, 19:1-4, Isaiah 40.26 and 45:6)

That which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.   For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (Rom 1:19-20)

Further examples (see also Psalm 8.1 / How Great Thou Art)

During the French Revolution many leaders were determined to do away with Christianity forever. One lovely, clear night an atheist boastfully proclaimed his satanic doctrine to a poor countryman. "Everything," he ranted, "will be abolished--churches, Bibles, clergymen. Yes, even the word 'God' itself! We shall remove everything that speaks of religion." The listener gave a quiet chuckle. "Why do you laugh?" demanded the other. The peasant pointed to the stars and replied, "I was just wondering how you and your crew would manage to get them down!"

SUPERNATURAL Revelation

When the "laws of nature" are broken, it proves the existence of something greater, indeed it proves the Creator and Sustainer of nature is at work.
